Trailer for Twisted Sisters

My video project, "Twisted Sisters," is more than simply a humorous skit. It will be a commentary on the dark side of the ballet world, and its toxic political and competitive aspects. I am trying to use humor in order to make light of the negative experiences I've faced as a  professional ballet dancer. The story will star my sister Emily (who is very much not a dancer), and myself. It will tell about constant, ever-present, but rarely spoken about, pressure to be better than your peers and closest friends, and will give insight to how one feels when they are unable to achieve this. I will attempt to explore other facets of the ballet world, including sacrifice, body image, and uncertainty.

  1. Okay, good--I like that you've found your way into this story. Your trailer is funny and fun and the title works well. I think you should make a decision about whether or not you're going to write about your sister or your ballet experience or both. Can you can write more about how your relationship with her may have helped or hurt or complicated or simplified your experience? I only ask because you brought her up right away when we were talking about ways to handle this topic, so I am wondering if there is more to this story in terms of her influence or support or something more that you could explore. You may not know until you start writing more about this--you have to give yourself time for the written portion of the video essay--spend some time with your thoughts--that's part of discovery process in writing and creating, as you probably already know.
